There’s always a buzz in the workshops when we hand over the keys to our customers for their new campervans, and this month was particularly fun when Tim Shaw, co-presenter of the TV show Car SOS, came in to collect his new campervan conversion.
Tim got in touch with us back in November 2016 to enquire about Autohaus making a campervan that he could use when travelling around the country filming the new series of Car SOS. If you’ve not seen the show, Tim and his sidekick Fuzz travel around the country surprising people by restoring their classic cars back to working condition.
He already had a VW T5 Transporter with a California pop-top roof, which his team had already done some work on, but he wanted one of our professional campervan interiors. Tim liked the style of campervans we build, and, being big fans of the show, we jumped at the chance to make him something special!
We began by stripping the dashboard, which was in poor condition, and had it Teflon-coated. We also replaced all the windows, fixed some wiring issues, and touched up the paintwork.
The seats were given an upgrade in tri-coloured leather, featuring black, grey, and red leather with red stitching. We also created bespoke furniture in gloss black to give it a modern, one-off look.
This month, Tim visited the workshops with his partner, Christine, and was overjoyed with the conversion job. Being no stranger to being in front of the camera, he was also kind enough to pose for a few photos with his new campervan and our team.
Tim is now in the process of filming the new series of Car SOS and sent us a message to say how much he was enjoying his new campervan.
Behind The Scenes Of Car SOS
The new series of Car SOS is set to be airing soon, and we look forward to seeing Tim and Fuzz travelling around the UK in his new camper, surprising people with their wonderful restorations of old and classic cars. Below are some photos, provided by Tim, of his new camper on set.
Tim will also be coming back down to our workshops to do some filming with his campervan in the coming months, so watch this space for more details.
